Sourcing home textile from India in 2026
India exported about $2.13 billion of bed, table and kitchen linen in FY2024-25 and ranks as the world’s number two exporter of cotton bed linen, with roughly 17% of global trade. In terry towels it leads outright: trade data puts India at about 61% of US cotton towel import shipments, far ahead of every competing origin.
The US is the anchor market, taking around 80% of India’s bed sheet shipments, and the February 2026 trade deal matters accordingly: the tariff on Indian made-ups now stands at 18%, down from a 50% peak, restoring cost predictability for retail programs and prompting new order flow.
Scale lives in a handful of mills: Trident and Welspun together weave close to 170,000 tonnes of towels a year, Indo Count and Himatsingka add over 200 million metres of bedding, and D’Decor drives furnishing fabric. These vendors run retail-programme volumes; smaller brands get better traction in the clusters.
Each cluster has a specialty. Panipat recycles around one million tonnes of textile waste a year into blankets, rugs and throws, and supplies most of the world’s relief blankets. Karur weaves kitchen and table linen with about 350,000 cluster workers, Solapur holds a GI tag for its towels, and the Bhadohi belt makes some three quarters of India’s handmade carpets.
