India Clothing Market Overview (2025)
India shipped close to $36 billion of textiles and apparel in FY2024-25, including $15.99 billion of ready-made garments, up 10% year on year. The United States takes about 28.5% of those exports and the EU another 19.6%, so the factories in this list are already built around Western compliance, sizing and shipping routines.
The 2026 headline is tariffs. Since the interim US-India trade deal of February 2026, Indian apparel enters the United States at 18%, down from a peak of 50% during 2025, and below the rates applied to most competing origins. Buyers who left India during the tariff shock are now re-booking capacity, so slots at the best-run factories fill early.
India is one of the only sourcing countries that grows its own fiber at scale. It is a top-two cotton producer, the world’s largest producer of organic cotton, and holds the highest count of GOTS-certified facilities anywhere: 3,699, ahead of Turkey and China combined growth. Fabric and garment come from the same country, which shortens chains and simplifies traceability.
Each product family has a capital. Tirupur handles roughly 90% of India’s cotton knit exports across 10,000+ units. Delhi-NCR leads embroidered woven fashion, Bengaluru hosts the large outerwear and tailoring plants, Ahmedabad drives denim, Jaipur owns hand block print, and Ludhiana covers woolens and accessories.
MOQs scale with the factory tier: 25 to 100 pieces per style at small-batch specialists, 300 to 500 at mid-size export houses, and 1,000-plus at the giants and on certified organic lines. Plan two to three weeks for sampling and 45 to 90 days for bulk production, then one week by air or four to five by sea to the US or Europe.
Certifications are widely held rather than exceptional: Sedex and BSCI social audits, OEKO-TEX chemical safety, WRAP, SA8000 and GOTS all appear across the hubs. The practical work is verifying that a certificate covers the exact unit sewing your order, which is one of the checks a sourcing partner runs before you commit a deposit.
