Why source garments in India in 2026
Three structural reasons. The fiber is local: India is a top-two cotton producer and the world’s largest producer of organic cotton, so fabric and garment come from one country. The compliance bench is the deepest anywhere for certified programs, with the world’s largest count of GOTS facilities. And since February 2026, Indian apparel enters the United States at an 18% tariff, below competing origins.
The honest caveat: India’s export base is fragmented, so factory-to-factory variance is real. That is what the audit and the three checkpoints are for, and why every certificate is verified at the unit that actually sews your order.
Apparel buyers don’t fail on price in India, they fail on picking the wrong city for their product. Match the hub first and half the sourcing risk disappears.
