India Marble & Granite Market Overview (2025)
India exported about $1.2 billion of granite and worked stone in FY2024-25, roughly 62% of it polished slabs, and sits among the world’s top granite exporters with about 15% of global supply. The US is the top slab market at around $320 million, with the UK, Poland and the Gulf following. Marble runs the other way: India imports blocks from Italy and Turkey and adds value at Kishangarh.
The hub map matters. The southern belt around Hosur and Salem processes granite slabs, Ongole in Andhra Pradesh holds the world’s only Black Galaxy deposit, Kishangarh is Asia’s largest marble market with 9,000+ traders and processors, and the Rajasthan sandstone belt around Bundi serves European landscaping with the sector’s best ethical-audit coverage.
Trade in 2026 splits by product. Natural stone benefits from the February deal’s 18% US tariff, down from a 50% peak. Engineered quartz is the exception: US anti-dumping orders from 2020 were continued in January 2026 and a new safeguard quota starts in August 2026, so quartz programs point to Europe and the Gulf while natural granite and quartzite stay clean for US buyers.
The trade runs on containers: a 20ft box carries about 250 sqm of 3cm slabs or 370 sqm of 2cm. Plan 2 to 4 weeks of production on stock colours, 8 to 10 for cut-to-size programs, and 4 to 5 weeks of sailing to the US East Coast. Indicative pricing runs $15 to $60 per square metre for polished slabs, with Black Galaxy at a premium.
Paperwork is market-specific: CE marking under EN 1341 and EN 1469 for European construction stone, ASTM C615 and C503 references for the US, and ISO or SEDEX audits at the better processors. A pre-loading inspection catches breakage, tone mismatch and thickness drift while the container is still at the factory, which is when it can still be fixed.
